I am very mildly nearsighted and do not understand why people who are farsighted can walk in to the drugstore and buy reading glasses at a great discount. But for my correction I have to buy very expensive eyeglasses. Why can’t I get over the counter glasses for distance?
The truth of the matter is, eyeglasses with a slight distance correction probably would not hurt your eyes. And the worse they would probably do is give you a headache if you did not actually need them. I have a feeling this issue has to do with legal issues.
Reading glasses are designed for a person to wear while they are safely sitting on their sofa. Distance glasses are commonly used for driving. And I am sure the average eyeglass designer does not want a law suit on their hands because their eyeglasses were worn while driving.
