Why do my eyes feel dry as the day progresses. When I wear my soft
contact lenses?

Contact lenses are composed of both plastics and water (saline /
tears). When you first put them on the water aspect is saline
solution. And as you wear them to saline is replaced with your tear
film.

Contact lens solutions are designed to give the lands a moisturizing
coating to help them feel hydrated for a longer period of time. So
sometimes simply changing the solution can make a dramatic difference.

Re: the lens itself. There are two factors. One is the material to
lenses made out of. Each manufacturer has its own proprietary
materials, and some stay hydrated. Better than others on different
eyes. Another factor is the water contents of the contact lens, a
lens that has a very low water content requires less moisture from
your tears. And a lens that has a very high water contents is
constantly grabbing moisture from your tears. This is a high-level
view of what is happening.

Some of the newer materials such as the pro-clear line of contact
lenses. Give us a high water lens that stays moisturized throughout
the day.

So what is happening is your tears are being sapped to rehydrate
contact lens. Therefore your eye feels dry, and it’s not giving the
lens enough moisture so the lens becomes dry to dry a soft lens tends
to tighten on the eye. And that’s why the feeling gets worse as the
day goes on.

The key in alleviating your dry eye sensation is to find the right
lens material and care solution combination. You should explain the
sensation to your eye care provider and ask if you can try a different
style of contact lens.

Using re-wetting drops during the day may help, but it does not solve
the root issue.
