The recent contact lens solution recall for Complete Moisture Plus MPS solution has had the entire contact lens industry in a frenzy.

This is the second solution recall within the past couple of years for completely different reasons. First, Renu with Moistureloc was pulled from the shelves and now Complete Moisture Plus. It is bad enough when all contact lens wearers have to worry and wonder if their eyes and vision are at risk, but the question is bound to come up, “Just how safe are soft contact lenses?“.

The good news is that contact lens can be extremely safe when used properly. Ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Do you wash your hands with soap and water before you handle your contact lenses; every time?
  2. Do you use fresh solution to rub and rinse your contact lenses every time your remove them?
  3. Do you use clean/fresh solution to store your lenses in ever time you put them away?
  4. Do you rinse your case with solution and allow it to air dry while you are wearing your lenses?
  5. Do you replace your lenses as prescribed by your eye care provider?

I Trust you answered “YES” to all of the questions listed above.

If you have been using a product that had been recalled, you nor your eye care provider have done anything wrong. In most instances, the first an eye care provider hears about a recall is after it has happened. Once it happens, we do get the inside scoop on the what and the why.

Switch to an approved solution, ensure you are following hygiene and care instructions, and see your eye care provider regularly. That is the best way to ensure you will continue to enjoy your contact lenses.
