I wear Proclear Compatibles and just love them. I see CooperVision is expanding the proclear line, are any of the new lenses an improvement over the original Proclears?
Improvement? That is hard to say. Rather, let’s call it an expansion of a good thing.
The original Proclear Compatibles have been a great contact lens with an extensive choice of fitting parameters. The material was originally designed to maintain moisture and reduce the feeling of contact lens related dry eye. Bottom line is, for many people, the lenses work great. So the natural progression for CooperVision was to keep going with a good thing and use that same material for other lens designs.
The material is not exactly the same in all the “proclear” designed lenses, but overall they are all very light, comfortable, breathable, and resist the dry eye sensation.
The entire “Proclear Family” of disposable lenses is:
- Proclear Compatbles (original proclear design)
- Proclear multfocal (for presbyopia)
- Proclear Toric (for astigmatism)
- Biomedics XC (2 week disposable sphere)
- Biomedics EP (for emerging presbyopes, or anyone over 30 who does a lot of up close and/or computer work)
- Proclear 1 day (single use lens that doesn’t dry on the eye)
If you are comfortable and happy in your compatibles, I would not think to change you into something different because that lens is still a top quality contact lens. However, if vision or lifestyle demands it ;or your eye health would benefit from changing to a different lens, a change might be in order. If you feel an update sounds good, ask your contact lens fitter. I am sure they will be happy to talk to you about all the new contact lenses that are available.
