I have Keratoconus and have heard a lot of buzz about a combination contact lens, is this something I can wear?

The combination lens you are referring to is the Synergeyes hybrid contact lens. This lens was selectively released to some lens fitters in late 2005, and has now become more widely available to a variety of contact lens specialists

What makes this lens so special is that it has a gas permeable center for improved vision, and bonded to the gas permeable lens is a soft lens periphery or skirt. In essence it is a lens that has the potential of providing the superior vision of a gas permeable lens with the comfort of a soft lens.

So to answer your question, can you wear this lens? Most likely yes. I can not guarantee a good fit as I don’t personally know your eyes. With that said, there is a specific line of Synergeyes lenses designed for Keratoconus (the Synergeyes KC)

I have fit many Keratoconus patients into a hybrid lens and most of the time they note a huge improvement in the comfort arena. And probably of most interest to existing gas perm lens wearers, foreign debris does not usually get under the soft lens skirt. So say goodbye to those sudden attacks.

I would say, if you have a qualified lens fitter, ask them if you are a candidate for the new hybrid contact lens
