A: Any theatrical or costume contact lens can be safe if you purchase it through the right source. Any of the reputable online stores, such as coastal contacts will ensure your contact lens is an approved and brand new one. However, even if you do not need a prescription for vision, it is required that your eye doctor approve the fit of the lens. When you order your lens through coastal they will need your eye doctors info so they can verify the lens is safe for you to wear. (I am sure this seams like a pain from the lens wearers side, but it is for your safety)

I highly highly recommend you avoid purchasing red, green, black, or whatever kind of costume lens from shady sources, such as flea markets or traveling costume stores. The fact is, the manufacturing of those lenses is not monitored so the lenses may be contaminated before you even open them up.

Enjoy your party and keep your eyes safe (even if they are hiding behind black lenses!)
